African white rhino
By Unknown - Jul 4, 2012
Around 100 years ago the wild population of African northern and southern white rhinos was reduced to as few as 100
Big game hunting and poaching were the main reasons for the animal's endangered status
Successful and repeated conservation efforts however have greatly improved both rhino subspecies population levels
There are now roughly 20,000 wild African white rhinos located primarily in southern and western Africa, although they remain a target for poachers.
